OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and Business


The OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and Business aims to cover fundamental professional knowledge in the key areas of business accounting and financial management. This allows the learners to develop the skills needed to successfully drive business growth on budget and cash flow.

This qualification is planned to help accountants advance in their careers. Upon completion of this course, the learners are eligible for the next level of study. The diploma awarded by OTHM at RQF Level 3 demonstrates practical knowledge, skills, capabilities, and competencies that are assessed academically to be equivalent to GCE AS/A levels.

OTHM is an established and recognised Awarding Organisation (Certification Body) launched in 2003. All qualifications of OTHM is approved and regulated by Ofqual (Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) and recognised by Qualifications Wales. OTHM is also a full member of Federation of Awarding Bodies (FEB). UK universities recognise OTHM qualifications and allow OTHM graduates to join relevant Bachelor Degree Final year/Master/MBA top-up programmes.

  • Relevant NQF/QCF/RQF Level 3 Award/Diploma or at the level of GCE/GCSE or equivalent qualification
  • Mature learners (over 21) with relevant management experience
  • The learner must be 18 years or older at the time of enrolment

  • Successful completion of Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and Business allows learners to pursue progressions, including Level 5 Diploma in Accounting and Business qualification.

The OTHM Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and Business consists of 6 mandatory units for a combined total of 120 credits, 1200 hours Total Qualification Time (TQT) and 480 Guided Learning Hours (GLH) for the completed qualification.

Learners must request before enrolment to interchange unit(s) other than the preselected units shown in the SBL website because we need to make sure the availability of learning materials for the requested unit(s). SBL will reject an application if the learning materials for the requested interchange unit(s) are unavailable.

Learners are not allowed to make any request to interchange unit(s) once enrolment is complete.

The aim of this unit is to familiarise learners with the accountant’s environment in relation to different organisation structures, environmental factors, professional ethics and regulation.

The aim of the unit is to develop learners’ skills in using quantitative methods including representing information to inform decision making in an organisation, and using statistical methods to provide meaningful financial and accounting information, applying these skills to a real world case study.
